Our members are required to have their own Pilates or yoga mat. It is important that you feel a deep connection with your mat, as this will become your sacred space for the healing practices that are offered here. Generally, your mat should be only for you to sit, stand and lie on. Treat your mat with gentleness, cleaning it after each use and keeping it out of direct sunlight.
At times, we incorporate the Pilates small ball, theraband (with medium resistance) and soft foam roller (90cm) in our physical practices although these are not mandatory. Prenatal clients are required to have a larger Swiss exercise ball depending on your height.
For meditation, it might be that you feel more comfortable with a meditation cushion that raises your hips. Meditation can also be practiced seated directly on your mat or upright in a regular chair.
We are quite inventive and make use of items that are generally lying around the home including pillows, blankets, small towels, yoga blocks, broomsticks, chairs, and other bits and bobs.
It is gently suggested that you set up a separate space in your home or office to practice, whether the practice is prerecorded or live. Generally, it is better if this space is not where you eat, sleep, or work. It should be clear of clutter or heavy noise. It might be that you enjoy burning candles, diffusing essential oils, or listening to gentle music while you practice.
Take 5-minutes before you practice to empty your bladder, bowels and breasts (for members who are breastfeeding). Always listen to your body and take it easy if you experience any bad pain or physical/emotional discomfort that is overwhelming.
